Kosovo, having 1/4 of Switzerland’s surface, is not only Europe’s youngest country, but possess also with 50% inhabitants under 25 years the youngest population. Facing challenges such as unemployment and economic underdevelopment, Kosovo offers also a beautiful nature including the Albanian Alps, delicious food and great hospitality.
Since its independence declaration in 2008, Kosovo is in a “construction” phase with the help of the EU, USA – and also substantial support of Switzerland – in order to build up institutions and strengthen the political system. Switzerland is actively involved in projects, among others to accelerate the economic development. But this is not the only bond which exists between Switzerland and Kosovo: Over 200’000 Kosovars are living and working in Switzerland, studying, being politically active or playing in the national football team. Many may have heard from Kosovar friends what Kosovo looks like or how it is, but few have visited Kosovo personally.
Kosovo – a young country with a long history, having a tight bond with Switzerland. The Swiss Study Foundation will conduct a study trip to Kosovo from 5th to 13th of May 2018 in order to get to know better this interesting country by talking to professors, politicians and students about Kosovo’s history, current challenges and its possible future.

Reader: Participants will prepare presentations about different topics. A reader will be made accessible. Preparations includes reading texts and presenting a paper.

Place: Pristina and excursions to Prizren, Peje and Decan, Mitrovica, Amselfeld and other places in Kosovo.
