Genetics and Biotechnology promise a future of unprecedented health and prosperity. Personalized genomics and health data management will change diagnostics, gene therapy could cure many diseases, growing organs for transplantation in the lab might be possible and GMOs might increase food security. This prospect will build many opportunities, but will also generate challenges for human kind.
In the Intellectual Tool «This Century’s Challenges in Life Sciences», we will discuss the fundamentals of ecology, evolution and molecular biology, and will emphasize on the the topics of synthetic biology, personalized medicine and the importance of basic research in life sciences. The program includes a practical course in molecular biology and guided tours through lab facilities at University of Zurich. The keynote lecture is held by the Dean of the University of Zurich’s Faculty of Science, Prof. Dr. Bernhard Schmid. He will share his expertise, as an ecologist, on green gene technology.
The goal of the program is to give you an overview of the life sciences field and to enable you to engage in future debates on related topics.
